About Us

The mission of the Hoover Choir Program is to create a safe, fun learning environment for students to explore and develop their physical, emotional, and cognitive artistic abilities through involvement in singing and choral musicianship.
In this awards winning program, students are encouraged to pursue creativity through musical endeavors that help them to be well-rounded people. This is achieved through careful course study of higher learning functions that are closely aligned with the CA state standards for Music as well as the current framework for arts education. There are five overarching strands that the students are expected to learn from:
1. Artistic perception refers to processing, analyzing, and responding to sensory information through the use of the language and skills unique to dance, music, theatre, and the visual arts.
2. Creative expression involves creating a work, performing, and participating in the arts disciplines.
3. Historical and cultural context concerns the work students do toward understanding the historical contributions and cultural dimensions of an arts discipline.
4. Aesthetic valuing includes analyzing and critiquing works of dance, music, theatre, and the visual arts.
5. Connections, relationships, and applications involve connecting and applying what is learned in one arts discipline and comparing it to learning in the other arts, other subject areas, and careers.

She continued to study music during college, earning a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from California Baptist University in Riverside, CA. During this time, Mrs. Estep toured the U.S. with the various auditioned university choirs, and studied voice with vocal coaches Tamera Horne and Camelia Voin. She also had the privilege of studying music education with Dr. Carl Schafer. Upon completion of her Bachelor's degree, Mrs. Estep continued her pursuit of teaching with the opening of her private voice studio. She went on to earn a Secondary Teaching Credential in Music and a Master of Science in Education, also from Cal Baptist.
Mrs. Estep has led the choral programs at Hoover High School and Toll Middle School since 2015. |
Who We AreOur History |
The Hoover High School Chamber Choir is a partially auditioned choir, composed of students from grades 9-12. Repertoire is varied and chosen with care to reflect the high standards of the program, but also to challenge and support the vocal needs of the students. We sing in two, three, and four part harmonies, with genres that span from classical western music, to contemporary pop hits, and everything in between. This range of music challenges the students in new ways and creates interest and exposure to a variety of artistic styles, thus developing the students’ perceptions of art and culture.
